We designed a new pathway, starting at the Victorian garden and leading to the kitchen garden. Because it is quite a dark part of the garden, it is very suitable for plants like tree ferns, maidenhair ferns and types of forest plants.
Ferns play a crucial role in our ecosystems and our gardens. These ancient plants, which predate even dinosaurs, are not just relics of a bygone era, but active contributors to the environment today.
Their lush green fronds are more than just a visual treat; they help regulate moisture levels in the soil, ensuring that it keeps water and doesn't dry out too quickly. This is vital in preventing soil erosion, as their intricate root systems hold the soil together.
Beyond their environmental engineering, ferns also provide habitats for various forms of wildlife, from insects to amphibians, creating a micro-ecosystem where diverse life can thrive. Their presence is a testament to the delicate balance of nature, where every element has a role to play in sustaining life as we know it.
