We were amazed at the discovery of the cast iron disk, as it was not something we were expecting to find while digging the patio. Its sheer size and weight showed that it had a significant purpose. After some research, we deduced that it was likely the top of a water tank used for agricultural purposes.
The process of moving the cast iron disk was no easy feat. It required the help of our trusty digger, which could lift and transport it to a new location. We decided to move it out of the way, but also wanted to showcase its unique presence. So, we carefully positioned it in front of a cluster of beautiful whitethorn plants that had naturally grown at the highest point of the garden behind the cottage.
This placement not only served as a functional solution but also added a touch of rustic charm to the garden. The juxtaposition of the sturdy, industrial cast iron disk against the delicate and vibrant whitethorn plants created an intriguing visual contrast. It became an unexpected centrepiece and sparked an idea.
Inspired by its presence, we decided to transform the area around the cast iron disk into a cozy fire pit. We cleared the surrounding space, laid tree stumps to create a circular seating area, and added a layer of gravel for safety. The cast iron disk became the perfect base for the fire pit, providing a sturdy and durable surface.
The background we acquired from an award-winning Bloom garden. The cordon steel is a great addition to the garden as it can withstand the harsh Irish weather while adding flair to the garden.
